Ceremony #1

We are gathered here today to celebrate one of life's greatest moments, to
give recognition to the worth and beauty of love, and to add our best
wishes to the words that shall unite ________and ________in marriage.

________ and ________, I would ask that each of you remember to treat
the other with respect, and remind yourself often of what brought you
together today. I would ask that you give the highest priority to the
tenderness, gentleness, and kindness that your marriage deserves.  When
frustration and difficulty assail your marriage...as they do in every
relationship at one time or another..I would ask that you focus not so much
on the part that seems difficult, but concentrate on that which is still good
between you.  This way, when clouds of trouble hide the sun in your lives
and you lose sight of it for the moment, you can remember that the sun is
still there.  If each of you will take responsibility for the quality of your life
together, it will be marked with abundance and joy.

______ and ________, do you share these understandings about your
marital commitment?  If so, please answer, we do.

The Vows

________, do you take ________as your wife?  Do you promise to love,
honor, cherish and protect her, forsaking all others and holding only onto
her?  If so, answer

Pronouncement

And so now, inasmuch, as you, ________, and you ________, have
announced the truths that are already written within your hearts, we
observe joyfully that you have declared yourselves to be husband and wife

Ceremony #2

We are gathered here to celebrate the joining of ________ and ________
in marriage.

________ and ________, marriage is not only for happiness, but for the
growth and enrichment of character.  There must be a dedication of each to
the other and of both to a purposeful and compassionate life.  Is it in this
spirit that you have come to be joined together?
It is.

________, will you have this woman to be your wife, to live together in
marriage?  Will you love her and give her your respect?  Will you nurture
and comfort her? Will you be present with her in sickness and in health, in
joy and sorrow?  Will you share with her your protecting strength, the depth
of your passion, the vigor of your embrace?  Will you share with her your
quiet, and your dreams, your moments of doubts and of your fears?  Will
you share friendship and devotion as well as the courage to renew the
fullness of your love?
I will.

________, will you have this man to be your husband, to live together in
marriage?  Will you love him and give him your respect?  Will you nurture
and comfort him? Will you be present with him in sickness and in health, in
joy and sorrow?  Will you share with him your protecting strength, the depth
of your passion, the vigor of your embrace?  Will you share with him your
quiet, and your dreams, your moments of doubts and of your fears?  Will
you share friendship and devotion as well as the courage to renew the
fullness of your love?
 I will.

Let me speak then in the words of a wonderful poet, Kahlil Gibran:

Love one another, but make not a bond of love.
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from one loaf.
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each of you be alone.
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the
same music.
Give your hearts, but not onto each other's keeping.
For only the hand of life can contain your hearts.
And stand together yet not too near together.
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
and the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
and let the winds of heaven dance between you
Love one another, but make not a bond of love.

The Vows:

Repeat after me:

I, _______, take you, _______ to be my wife and to share with me the many
experiences of life.  I will love you and respect you.  I will honor you, cherish
you, and be a comfort to you.  I will keep you in times of health, happiness
and prosperity, and in times of sickness, tension, and hardship, should they
come our way.  I acknowledge you to be my wife, my equal, my lover, and
my closest friend.

The Rings:

The circle symbolizes many precious hopes and joys.  It is beyond
beginnings, and without end.  It is the outward sign of your marriage.  It
represents, too, your inner completeness and wholeness.  The rings you
have chosen to wear are now joined, such that wherever you go, you will
return again to each other.

Repeat after me:

I give you this ring as a symbol of my love for you, _________and the
commitments we have made together.
